🧊 First step
Your very first speech at Toastmasters is called the Ice Breaker, in which you give a short 4-6 minute talk about yourself. The goal is to get you started with public speaking and so that club members can get to know you.
You can talk about anything you'd like!
Read more on Ice Breaker on the Toastmasters website here.
See next sections for instructions for signing up for a speaking slot.
🗓️ What should I do towards an upcoming meeting?
Please RSVP your attendance towards each meeting, the sooner the better.
This is important so that everyone knows how many members will be present and for distributing roles.
Marking your attendance is done on EasySpeak, see our EasySpeak Tutorial.
🗣️ How do I reserve speaking slots? ("Speeches")
Each meeting has up to 3 speeches given by members.
When a session has 3 speakers, we also vote for Best Speaker! So please sign up for as many speeches as you'd like!
Toastmasters Europe uses a system called EasySpeak for signing up for speeches and supporting roles.
See our EasySpeak Tutorial for instructions on how to reserve a speaking slot.
✍️ How do I register for supporting roles?
Each club meeting has several fun and important supporting roles, such as Timekeeper, Grammarian, Host, Evaluators, etc.
These roles are important for keeping the meeting rolling and for giving valuable feedback to members who take speaking roles.
These roles also allow members to spend time in front of an audience even when they aren't giving a speech.
Members usually take a maximum of one role per meeting.
For a list of the different roles see: https://www.toastmasters.org/membership/club-meeting-roles
See our EasySpeak Tutorial for instructions for how to sign up for roles.
🚴 Training Paths
Toastmasters offers different "Paths" that you can choose based on what's important for you to work on. Two common paths are "Presentation Mastery" which aims to improve public speaking skills and "Dynamic Leadership" which is aimed at building leadership skills.
Read more about the paths here: https://www.toastmasters.org/Education/Pathways/Pathways%20Paths%20and%20Projects
Each path is divided into Levels, and each Level is broken down into Projects. Each Project has a different focus, such as body language, vocal variety, speech structure, etc.
When you register for a speaking slot on EasySpeak, you specify which Level and Project your speech will be related to.
